Automobile insurance for a Fiat –

When buying any make or model of vehicle, you must have a minimum amount of insurance required by the state in which you live. Coverage tiers may be higher depending on the driver's preference for the financial protection required. While the level of coverage is one aspect that affects the cost of car insurance, your specific make and model also play a role in how much a car insurance company charges.

How much does Fiat insurance cost?

The cost of car insurance (in most states) is influenced by many personal factors such as age, marital status, driving history, creditworthiness, and place of residence. The make and model of the car you choose will also affect your auto insurance rates based on price and value or related safety ratings. Sports cars and luxury cars tend to be more expensive than cheaper brands and models like sedans.

Even if you look at different models from the same manufacturer, the cost of insurance will vary. Each model has different repair costs, safety features, and options that affect the base amount of auto insurance. To determine the average cost of car insurance for Fiats, we compared the reported Quadrant Information Services annual premiums from some of the leading insurance carriers (by market share) for the following models:

  • Fiat Spyder
  • Fiat 500C

Other car insurance coverage for Fiats

Although states only require minimum coverage for legal driving, insurance experts recommend buying as much liability insurance as you can afford or considering other coverage for additional financial protection. If you buy or lease a Fiat model on loan, you may need to take out fully comprehensive insurance, including fully comprehensive and collision protection. Fully comprehensive insurance offers greater financial protection for the Fiat model you choose, including property damage to your vehicle – regardless of who is to blame in the event of an accident.

When purchasing auto insurance or switching providers, a licensed agent may recommend these insurances depending on your circumstances:

  • Collision protection: The collision protection extends to your vehicle if it is damaged in a collision with another vehicle or object (except for animals on the road), regardless of who is at fault. The collision usually has its own deductible, which is taken into account by the insurer when calculating the payout amount. If the car is totaled, the insurance company usually pays the depreciation or replacement value of the car, depending on your policy.
  • Comprehensive coverage: The fully comprehensive insurance is considered “out of collision” and pays for the coverages that are not included in the collision. Broken window panes and windshields, vehicle theft, vandalism, weather events and running into an animal are fully insured. Fully comprehensive insurance is usually also associated with a separate deductible.
  • Gap insurance: If you are buying or leasing your Fiat, gap insurance can be another coverage to consider. If the fiat is totaled and you owe more on the loan than the car's value is depreciated, you will have to pay the difference unless you have a gap insurance policy. This coverage pays the lender the difference so you are not liable for the balance.
  • Reimbursement of the rental car: This insurance pays for a rental car while your Fiat is being repaired after an insured accident, usually for a limited number of days. If you don't have access to another vehicle and need something to drive with when your Fiat is damaged, a rental car refund may be a possible coverage.
  • Roadside assistance: If you break down, run out of petrol, need a tire change or your Fiat needs to be towed to a workshop for maintenance, breakdown assistance is helpful. This coverage is optional and can be worthwhile if you're stranded somewhere and need help.
